Contour Design RollerMouse Pro Wireless Review

contour design

It can be used whether you are a number-cruncher, a CAD creative or a video and image editor. Thanks to a design that enables the use of both hands, the cursor can be controlled with a light touch of the fingertips, allowing you to achieve more relaxed and varied work, and always remaining within the ideal working area. Contour Design is a market leader within the development and design of ergonomic computer mice like RollerMouse, Unimouse and Contour Mouse. Overall, however, I struggled to find my balance in my time testing the RollerMouse.

I discovered in testing the RollerMouse Pro that while the mouse claims to eliminate reaching, I did find it a little hard to type over, and I averaged 47 words per minute (wpm) with that mouse beneath my keyboard and 57wpm without it. But because I found myself not coming into contact with the slider bar as often as I did with the RollerMouse Pro, using the slider bar was a smoother and more enjoyable experience overall. The lined grips along the slider bar helped guide my hands while using it. At the same time, the wider base of the slider bar allowed me to more comfortably rest my fingers against it.

The keyboard

“In 2017 I received investment from a reputable European multinational construction company [Doka Ventures]. We started this company and our mission became looking closely at the real implementation issues and solving the remaining problems, difficult problems that once solved would make the technology maybe easier to use and more appealing to use. Welcome to Contour Medical Spa where state of the art technologies and treatments bring real results. Our no-nonsense, conservative approach in medical aesthetics provides personalized and unique services specific to individual needs. Our results-driven goal is to assist everyone to look and feel their best with non-invasive aesthetic treatments.

Placement of both hands close to the keyboard also makes it easier to use keyboard shortcuts, further increasing your productivity. Beautifully designed and useful for both the differently abled and those who suffer from computer-induced shoulder, wrist, and neck pain, the SliderMouse Pro is much easier to use than its sibling. If we had to choose between the two, our recommendation goes to the SliderMouse Pro. Meanwhile, if ergonomic mice are what you're after, but you’re unsure about a two-hand mouse solution, entry-level trackballs like the Kensington Pro Fit Ergo TB550 or the Kensington Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball could serve you well.

Known for transforming spaces, businesses, and communities, Contour has a keen eye for quality and design, data-driven insights, and recognizing regional needs. Like the RollerMouse Pro, the SliderMouse Pro is a computer mouse that looks like anything but. It retains the same striking, innovative design as its cousin, complete with a vegan leather wrist rest. Almost as wide as a keyboard, the SliderMouse Pro measures 0.9 by 15 by 4.9 inches (HWD) and weighs 2.15 pounds. Wider than any ordinary mouse, the SliderMouse Pro is meant to be tucked south of your keyboard, combining the mouse and wrist rest into one convenient device. The Contour Design SliderPro does a lot of the same things as its sibling, the RollerPro, but in swapping the roller bar for a slider bar, this ergonomic mouse becomes far more comfortable, accurate, and intuitive.

It is ancient news that a classic mouse causes damage that can be long lasting and difficult to fix. The US Department of Defense funded the development of this custom 3D printer in July 2018, the CrafTrans. The CrafTrans is a sub-1,000kg rapid prototyper that fits snugly onto a truck and can be quickly unloaded and deployed in both military and civilian situations. And though regulatory issues until very recently have plagued the development of 3D construction printing in the USA, Contour Crafting has carved an effective niche selling a custom-made, portable 3D printer to the government. “I don’t think that competing with conventional construction is a trivial change, it’s a major challenge. There’s a lot of hype about 3D printing, especially in construction.

The rechargeable battery can last for up to three months and takes about five hours for a complete charge. Generally, we recommend using a negatively tilted keyboard, as your wrists will be in the most neutral position, ultimately avoiding unnecessary strains. The Unimouse is available in both right-hand and left-hand versions.

3D Printing Industry Statistics (2024 Update)

With six buttons to its name, the RollerMouse can be adjusted as needed. Using the downloadable Contour Shuttle app, you can tweak button functionality and sensitivity, and even set application-specific settings across the six buttons and roller bar. The software, like the hardware, is well-designed and easy to navigate.

“I am doing as much I can to advance the technology, and what is important to me is really the journey. The destination is not in our control always, we just carry it so far as long as we can while we are around, and that is my philosophy in life. “We have released our new product, the first units of the product has gone to the government, they contracted us to build this machine. Doka Ventures, a wing of Austrian construction company Umdasch Group, bought into the vision, taking a 30% share in the newly formed Contour Crafting company. As of now however, Khoshnevis does not currently work or focus on the space applications of construction 3D printing. It costs an eye-watering $10,000 to send 1lb into space, so shipping the materials to build shelters for astronauts won’t work.

The two-handed approach, with the device positioned below your keyboard, is just one way of using the SliderMouse Pro. I also spent time with it beside the keyboard, in the same position you would use a traditional computer mouse. Controlling with one hand felt intuitive to me, even if I wished the device were smaller. Could Contour take the SliderMouse Pro's ergonomic design and bring it to a new device the size of the Apple Magic Trackpad or the Kensington Expert Mouse Wireless Trackball? But while I did feel a noticeable difference between the RollerMouse Pro and the SliderMouse Pro, putting the mouse to use is still easier said than done. The learning curve will prove a challenge to newcomers, even if it's less than the RollerMouse Pro's.

Sending a construction 3D printer to print harvested lunar materials, however, could save billions. Yet, fully believing his idea of construction 3D printing could change the world, Dr Khoshnevis expanded his vision beyond our planet. And in 2004 my work became very famous, in the New York Times… and that’s when the world learned about [Contour Crafting], and it inspired a lot of others to go after it. “When you’re working in a university you have to bring your own research money, they will go so far in giving you seed money, but you cannot always depend on that. And especially for this kind of research I needed a big laboratory, but getting the resources to justify having a big lab in a university campus that is nearly in the heart of the city, very near to downtown Los Angeles… land is extremely expensive.

Ergonomic mice and keyboards are essential to maintaining a correct posture (and maybe even some of your sanity) while working at your computer for hours on end. They come in all shapes and sizes, but some of the more avant-garde ones are from Contour Design. The Contour RollerMouse Pro Wireless ($289), a long-standing, oft-refined design, is one such example. A unique effort, the RollerMouse Pro attempts to combine a trackball mouse and a wrist rest into a single input device that’s both comfortable and productivity-friendly. The Contour RollerMouse Pro is certainly not for everyone, held back by both a high price and a steep learning curve.

Our review unit’s wrist rest was the regular size, but Contour also offers a slim version that cuts the size down by half. Even nicer, the grips are easily swappable, requiring just a quick snap-off of the magnetic base. As mentioned, the SliderMouse Pro comes with some of the RollerMouse Pro’s drawbacks, too. The SliderMouse Pro makes use of the same type of risers that add lift to the device body—a welcome addition, but I wish that Contour included guides for optimal placement. Using the mouse as intended (situated at the bottom of the keyboard) was still a little clunky for me, but using the slim wrist rest (sold separately) did help reclaim some of my desk space lost by the depth of the mouse.

If you laid eyes on the RollerMouse Pro and thought the device’s “roller bar” was too much to handle, you might be swayed by the SliderMouse Pro Wireless ($289) instead. This variant swaps the roller bar for a treaded, unique "slider bar." It shares much the same pros (and cons) as the aforementioned Contour device, but the SliderMouse Pro proves to be a smoother ride overall, with a more palatable learning curve. A centred mouse is designed for anyone who spends a large part of their workday in front of a computer. Optimal working methods are key for all forms of computer work, regardless of whether you use Microsoft Office or creative design software, such as Adobe Photoshop. With a centred mouse, the cursor controller sits just in front of the keyboard, improving your work flow as you no longer need to stretch out for your mouse to control the cursor.

We have committed ourselves to provide office workers around the world with optimized ergonomics. Our efforts have resulted in thousands of people preventing and relieving unnecessary strain injuries. Improving life in front of the computer for office workers is our main purpose. Since repetitive strain injuries, also called mouse arm, is often connected to computer work and poor ergonomics such as faulty installed equipment, it is good to... Here, we'll guide you through everything from function to design, ultimately giving you the best chance of choosing the best mouse for you.

When the cruise control has been determined to be operational within a strict set of parameters, it receives its sign-off from our staff and the control switch is permanently installed. Please note that I am handicapped in that I have no personal experience at all with the factory-installed Miata cruise control. Any reference that I make to the factory model is based on the description of that unit as it appears in the 1990 shop manual.

Purchasing Rostra Products

In addition to the brake de-activation, this unit requires a connection to the Miata's clutch switch. All Miatae, whether cruise control equipped or not, supposedly come with one, and there is supposed to be a terminal (‘RSW') on the back of instrument cluster bezel which provides the output of the speed sensor. Possibly this is the case on US models, but my early 1990 Canadian had no such sensor, and I had to purchase a third-party one, the Mazda unit not being available as a separate unit, in Canada anyhow.

The E-Cruise Module is the proverbial "brain" of the entire system and with the assistance of the included accelerator pedal interface harness, intercepts the communication between the pedal position sensor and the vehicle' Electronic Control Unit (ECU). Through the use of the included OBD port connector, the E-Cruise Module constantly monitors vehicle speed and loading and instructs the ECU to open or close the electronic throttle actuator to hold a set speed. Rostra is known as one of the most reputable brands in the cruise control market, with some of the best products available. M&R Electronics carries many different Rostra products, including Rostra complete cruise control kits and OEM switches. Regardless of your vehicle’s make or model, we likely have a Rostra cruise control product that’s perfect for your car or truck.

Rostra Miata Cruise Control (a.k.a. MAX-5 Cruise Control)

This one set me back $US 180 from Performance Buyers Club, again not counting shipping costs and those forever accursed Canadian taxes. The servo module on this (possibly newer) model is much smaller (4"x 3") and seems to be very similar in size to the factory unit. The owner's guide states that it is a Rostra cruise control modified by Performance Buyers Club specifically for the Miata. Add an aftermarket cruise control kit to your ride by choosing one of many universal cruise control kit options from Summit Racing!

Rostra Cruise Control Kits 250-9009

It's also worth mentioning that Rostra's systems are manufactured in the United States by the same company that had pioneered the development of such technology. The LED is a surface-mount light on the circuit board to the left of switch number ONE of the programming switches.

This is no big deal, and is probably a result of the third party speed sensor being a very tight fit on the speedometer cable as it passes through the instrument cluster. The speed sensor is just barely touching the edge of the instrument cluster panel. The factory sensor is supposed to be smaller in diameter and supposedly does not have this problem.

Unfortunately, my understanding is that you have to buy the speedometer to get the factory sensor - it is not available separately. The ‘single piece' refers to the huge (7"x6") servo module which mounts on the driver's side fenderwell to the immediate right of the air flow meter, taking up almost all available space and just barely fitting in with my Flying Miata strut brace. Electrical controls (the ‘regulator') are on a small box attached to the servo.

To find out if your vehicle has an RF switch available, check out our application guide. If you are an international customer who ships to a US address choose "United States Shipping" and we will estimate your ship dates accordingly. Once the unit is installed make sure that the cable attached to the accelerated is as tight as can be without opening the throttle. The project took a total of about 5 hours because we had trouble with the first mounting bracket. The bracket needed to be adapted to mount high enough to clear the washer tank and the intake manifold.

To acquire both vehicle speed signal (VSS), brake wire, and tachometer wiring colors and locations, please use our VSS Search above. If you do not see your vehicle listed, please download Rostra forms Form #4428 (for vehicles built between 1996 and 2009) or Form #4429 (for vehicles built between 1986 and 1995). We begin cruise control development by recording data from the vehicle's CAN bus using special software to determine which signals need to be sent to the ECU to control speed.

When one is looking to set their cruise control with a single touch of a button, it should come as no surprise that people turn to Rostra Precision Controls as the brand to make such a task possible. Rostra's Precision Control's Universal Cruise Control System has been making waves in the cruise control market for quite some time and there's plenty of reasons why. Whether it be maintaining speed or accelerating, the Universal Cruise Control System makes it all possible without touching a pedal. So considering these perks, we're going to elaborate as to why Rostra's product is incredibly favorable for those to make short commutes or long drives across the country. Rostra Precision Controls has been building precision parts for nearly 150 years and has built a reputation as a supplier of cruise control systems, parking assist sensors,...

Rostra sells its products through an extensive distribution network that includes Original Equipment Manufacturers, expeditors, mass merchandisers, regional mobile electronics chains and independent specialists both domestic and internationally. I have been very satisfied with this product since I have installed it. Going up hills, the cruise control accelerates appropriately. I definitely recommend adding this if your Miata has become a highway cruiser as much as a backroad driver. Having cruise control has certainly helped to make more car more comfortable.

The servo module is supposed to be mounted on the engine firewall immediately under and to the left of the windshield washer fluid reservoir. However, the very much larger reservoir on Canadian models such as mine made this impossible, and the servo ended up immediately behind the air flow meter. It fits in quite nicely there, though it may make a planned future installation of a Jackson Racing cold-air induction unit difficult if not impossible. Considering the information above, a cruise control system might be exactly what you need for a safe and relaxing trip to your next destination. Thankfully, Mobile Installation Service is here to not only help you find the Rostra product you're looking for, but help you install it as well. Contact Mobile Installation Services today for a safer drive tomorrow.

Both units require connections to be made for electrical power and brake switch de-activation. Our sophisticated Prototype Department has an expert staff, working with today's most advanced equipment. They can bring a product from concept into full reality in astonishingly little time. This update adds the ability to select Blind Spot Cameras when moving as well as addresses a bug when the rear camera power was wired incorrectly. Once a vehicle-specific software package has been created, it is then written to the E-Cruise Module inside of a Faraday cage in order to reduce incidences of outside EMI. The latest in commercial fleet safety technology, this system detects blind spot, overtaking, and cross traffic of other vehicles, people, or objects.

Both are made by Rostra Precision Controls Inc of Laurinburg, North Carolina. Like the factory unit, both use a servo assembly to control the throttle cable, with the servo activated by engine vacuum tapped from a fitting on the top of the intake manifold designed for this purpose. We are currently pioneering the development and marketing of innovative automotive accessories. Backed by nearly 150 years of experience in precision manufacturing, we have earned our reputation as an ideal partner throughout the automotive industry. Those whose Miata for one reason or another did not come equipped with a factory installed cruise control may find my experiences with two varieties of one particular brand of after-market cruise control of interest. The control falls readily to hand, as the saying goes. We then need to determine which E-Cruise Module best suites a particular application based on the signal that we need to send to the ECU when cruise control is active. Someone referred to this unit in an earlier posting as the ‘single piece' control. It costs $US 140 from Moss Motors, shipping charges and the accursed Canadian GST not included.

I drive to Oregon a couple of time a year (900+ miles each way) and the thought of this drive without the cruise is just painful.

Rostra Cruise Control Kits 250-1855

Once I tightened it as much as possible without opening the throttle, the cruise has worked wonderfully. If you do have to get an after-market cruise control, make sure that you are getting the two-piece Rostra/MAX-5 unit. I don't know if it is available from anyone except Performance Buyers Club.

Rostra Cruise Control Kits 250-1859

Gain is how the cruise control reacts to both road conditions and engine size. Always start at the factory setting which is Mid-Gain. If the vehicle surges while the cruise is engaged, you will need to adjust the gain setting. A fast surge, when the vehicle speeds up rapdily above the cruising speed, requires the gain to be lowered. A slow surge, where the vehicle slows well below the cruising speed, requires the gain to be raised to High.

I realized the key to the kit was to fine tune it AFTER you drove it a couple of time. I have had it installed for 2 months now and I only had to fine tune it that first day. Once installed, my first drive was very disappointing. The cruise would just keep surging on and off the throttle (over and over and over). I though about why it was doing this, and after inspecting the way I connected it to the throttle, I left a little slack in the cruise cable. (the instructions warn you not to leave it too tight, but it doesn't tell you what will happen if it's too loose.).

Rostra Cruise Control Kits 250-9008

Today, as a result of years of experience and research, we are continuing to lead the way with the development of new, innovative solutions to meet the challenges of tomorrow. Once the loaded software package has been verified in triplicate, we then test drive the vehicle to confirm that cruising speed holds between 31 and 80 MPH with minimal fluctuation. Both units come with an identical stalk-mounted control switch which fits very nicely on the lower steering column shroud.

If you are an international customer and would like to change the currency that prices are displayed in, you can do so here. Please note that Checkout Prices will be in US Dollars. If at all possible, buy a Miata with the factory installed cruise control.

Based on the cell concept, our employees are trained in on-line SPC practices. All products are final tested for specification verification. Rapid prototyping allows us to create new products per customer specifications at an incredibly fast pace with very little delay between product design and shipping. Our ability to scale production lines and add new products is largely due to our facility size. Our manufacturing plant measures over 80,000 square-feet. For years Rostra has been known throughout the automotive industry as a leader in the manufacture, as well as the development, of an extensive line of products.

Maintaining on-site technical support means you get answers to complicated questions quickly and from technicians that helped develop the products you install. All settings are based on 1/8-inch slack in cruise control cable. More slack will cause the cruise control to surge or lose speed once set. RF steering wheel-mounted switches can be installed on several vehicles, but are not recommended for every vehicle.

All of the Rostra products in our inventory are designed to last. Located below this FAQ section, you will find installation manuals for each product Rostra manufacturers including aftermarket cruise controls, backup camera systems, ultrasonic parking assist systems, seat heaters, and automotive lumbar support. We do not recommend using any Rostra cruise control systems on motorcycle, ATV, or other non-automotive applications as we do not validate the operation of these units on these vehicles. Due to safety concerns surrounding these installations, Rostra representatives are unable to provide technical support on these applications. Depending on your specific needs, we have the right Rostra cruise control kit for your vehicle. Our kits feature various switch models that are compatible with many different vehicle makes and models, along with cables and other parts needed to install a complete new or replacement cruise control system.
